City of Glendale Celebrates Grand Re-Opening of Palmer Park

After various improvements, local community members can look forward to Palmer Park’s grand re-opening to celebrate the New Year. The Glendale City Council and the Community Services & Parks Department are pleased to invite community members to the Grand Re-Opening Ceremony of Palmer Park this Saturday, January 14th at 10:30 AM. The formal program will begin at 11:00 AM with light refreshments, activities, and of course a chance to try out the park’s new amenities.

The Palmer Park Site Improvements Project started back in 2011 in order to upgrade the park’s aging playground equipment and make the park safer for the community to enjoy. It involved extensive community outreach and was comprised of 11 meetings, focus groups, and design workshops. The project was funded by a combination of Community Development Block Grant funds, State Housing-Related Park funds, and Development Impact Fee funds.

Additions include:

  • New park entry design and replacement of fence and gate along Palmer Drive

  • Improved landscaping and irrigation system

  • Water-wise and native plant palette for sustainability

The formal program will begin at 11:00 am and will be followed by activities for guests. Community Services & Parks staff will be on hand to play a game of S.K.A.T.E at the new skating element, with the winner being awarded a prize. Kids will also be able to enjoy the new wading pool and fun activities offered by Community Services & Parks staff. The Glendale Rocks!
