In 2012, the City of Glendale, CA began a two year long renovation project for the Brand Library & Art Center. The $9.5 million project included installing seismic bracing, a new HVAC system, a new roof, new plumbing, and data and electrical systems. Then on March 27, 2014, Brand Library reopened.
Due to the historic preservation and adaptive reuse, the City of Glendale’s Library, Arts & Culture, and Public Works Departments received the Design Excellence 2014 Citation Award from the San Fernando Valley Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
Upon completing the renovation, it only seemed fitting to install new park-wide exterior signage to incorporate the current Glendale Signage & Wayfinding Guidelines and uses the City’s branding standards to compliment the library’s makeover. Community Services & Parks, Library, Arts & Culture, and Public Works Departments will be working side by side on this project expected to be begin late November. The proposed signage will make it easier to navigate in and around the library for pedestrians and motorists.
The new aluminum signage features a silkscreened color graphic layout and will be protected by anti-graffiti coating. It was also designed to be eye catching and guide ambulatory and disabled visitors to their destinations within Brand Park more easily than the existing mismatched signage.
