Announcing the 1st Annual Upcycled Holiday Craft Contest

Are you a Glendale student? Are you feeling crafty this year?! Show us just how crafty you really are this month by entering Public Works’ First Annual Upcycled Holiday Craft Contest!

What is upcycling? Upcycling is creative reuse. It’s the process of transforming materials that would have otherwise been thrown away or recycled into something useful and beautiful.

Who Can Enter:

There are three categories: K-3rd, 4th-8th, 9th-12th

How to Enter: Take a picture of yourself with your holiday craft and tag us on Facebook (@MyGlendalePW) listing what materials were repurposed along with your information (first & last name, grade & school name). If you don’t have your own Facebook account, ask your parents to help you out! The tagged pictures that meet the judging criteria will then be posted on Facebook in the appropriate grade bracket picture album. The picture that has the most Likes wins.

Entry Rules: For your craft to be posted on Facebook, all entries must follow the criteria below:

  1. At least 90% of the craft must be composed of reused materials (plastic bottles, candy wrappers, bottle caps, etc.). Glue, staples, string, and rubber bands may be used as fasteners. Prohibited items: new materials, food items, batteries, aerosol cans, and glass.

  2. Originality

  3. Be as creative as you’d like!

When:

Contestants may begin tagging us in their pictures from December 1st at 9:00AM to December 28th until 5:00PM. Then on January 7, 2016 one winner from each bracket will be announced on Facebook and Twitter.

Prizes: Winners from each grade bracket will be featured on MyGlendaleCityNews.org, City Connections, Glendale’s webpage and GTV6. In addition to receiving a MYSTERY prize!
