Sediment Management for Linda Vista Debris Basin

LA County Flood Control District, on behalf of LA County Public Works, is undertaking a sediment management project within the Linda Vista Flood Control Debris Basin. The purpose of the maintenance activity is to help restore the basin’s sediment retaining capacity so that it can provide adequate flood protection to the surrounding community during this winter storm season. The sediment removal is necessary since the current El Niño weather cycle is expected to produce a significant amount of rainfall that will carry new sediment into the basin. The maintenance activity will involve the use of heavy equipment, such as excavators and dump trucks, to remove sediment from the basin.

Public Works has obtained the necessary permits from the regulatory agencies to complete the project.

Trucks will pick up sediment and haul it to the Dunsmuir Sediment Placement Site. The route the trucks will take is as follows: East on Linda Vista Road, left on Chevy Chase Drive, left on Glenoaks Boulevard, left onto the 2 North freeway, merge onto the 210 West freeway, exit Pennsylvania Avenue and turn right, left on Foothill Boulevard, right on Boston Avenue, right on Markridge Road, and left into the site. Exiting the basin: North on Dunsmore Avenue, left on Santa Carlotta, right on Pennsylvania Avenue, and onto the 2 East freeway. See map on the reverse of this flyer.

Maintenance activities are scheduled to begin on Monday, January 11, 2016. County crews will work Monday through Friday 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. The work will take approximately two weeks to complete.

Truck drivers will not drive along residential streets before 7 a.m.
