Eleven years ago today, one of the most tragic events in recent Los Angeles history occurred along the Metrolink tracks in southern Glendale. A southbound Metrolink commuter train collided with a sports utility vehicle that had been purposefully parked in the middle of the tracks. The impact caused the train to derail and strike trains on either side of it.
The chain reaction resulted in 11 deaths and 177 injuries.
Today we honor and pay tribute to the lives that were lost in this tragic incident.
