
If you are looking for some fun and excitement to help pass the long hot days of summer, the City of Glendale offers a wide array of various summertime activities for the whole family. Whether you love getting outside and catching some rays, or want to just relax inside with a nice book, there is bound to be a summer program for you.
Reading Under the Summer Sun
If you are back home from college, taking your summer break before another year in school, or just a parent wanting to read something new, the Glendale Library presents the annual Summer Reading Program. This year’s theme is “Read for the Win!” with programs offered for children, teens, and adults. Participants in this exciting summertime activity have the chance to win various prizes for every event they attend and book they read. The program ends August 27, so there is plenty of time left to sign up and participate before the summer ends.
Summer Concerts in the Park
If you want to forgo the reading and dance instead, the City of Glendale has you covered with the second annual Summer Concerts in the Park. This six week free concert series is packed to the brim with amazing performances from a variety of performers and will be sure to have something for every member of the family. The series takes place every Wednesday through August 3 from 6:30 until 8:30 pm in Verdugo Park. For more information about this amazing concert series, click here.
Outdoor Activities
It is easy to get stuck inside during the summer months, but summertime is the best time to get outside and experience Glendale’s beautiful natural spaces and outdoor programs. The city’s Trails and Open Space Program sponsored by Glendale Parks & Open Space Foundation hosts multiple workdays and events throughout the summer. Join a loyal group of volunteers as your explore and maintain Glendale’s natural beauty during the Trails and Open Space Program’s workdays. In addition, the Community Service and Parks department is hosting a movie night August 5th featuring the hit Disney movie Zootopia at the Pacific Community Center’s little league field. 2016 Summer Aquatics Program
Finally, no summer would be complete without spending some time at the local pool. This year the Summer Aquatics Program will run through September 25 at the Pacific Park Community Pool, 509 S. Pacific Ave. The Aquatics Program host multiple programs and events throughout the summer ranging from recreational swim, instructional swim lessons, to a Junior Lifeguard Academy. In addition, if you want to spend some pool time with your children 8 years and younger, wading pools will be available in Brand, Glenoaks, Dunsmore and Fremont parks.
