Maryland Avenue to be closed for Paseo Trial Period

The City of Glendale is preparing for an exciting new development on Maryland Avenue. On Monday, August 29, the City will be closing down Maryland between Wilson and Broadway to through traffic in order to make the street a pedestrian-friendly Paseo as part of a trial program. The trial program will last anywhere from 30 to 90 days based on feedback from the community. Signage will be posted around Maryland to alert drivers of the closure and parking structures in the area will not be impacted.

Closing Maryland Avenue to through traffic aims to invigorate economic and pedestrian activity within the Arts and Entertainment District. The creation of a pedestrian safe Paseo will allow residents more outdoor seating, music and artistic performances, and leisurely activities to enjoy. Vacant storefronts on Maryland have since been converted to art galleries with seating and yard games out front to provide residents a chance to enjoy lunch, dinner, or coffee outdoors in the Paseo.
