The Glendale Fire Department (GFD) with resources from the Los Angeles City Fire Department and Glendale Police Department mobilized Saturday, September 10 to rescue a lost hiker in Brand Park. Glendale Fire Department personnel, with the assistance of the Glendale Police Department helicopter searched and located the hiker at the KROQ towers behind the Brand Library. Due to steep terrain and heavy brush, the lost hiker was hoisted to safety by a Los Angeles City Fire Department helicopter.
After an evaluation by GFD Paramedics, the lost hiker was released at the scene. GFD resources were on scene for one hour and 46 minutes.
The Glendale Fire Department continues to encourage residents to plan ahead before their next hike. Residents should bring water, wear appropriate clothing, carry a flashlight or headlamp, bring a light snack, and keep a charged cell phone with them. Additionally, people should always stay on marked trails to avoid getting lost.
