Keep the Jewel City Shining: Bulky Item Pickup

The City offers free bulky item pickup, but needs your help to make sure they know about the refuse. People living both in homes or multi-family buildings can request free Bulky and Electronic Item Pickup by the City’s Integrated Waste Management Division. To utilize this service, you must first determine when your refuse collection day is, and whether your items are acceptable for pickup.

In order to request a Bulky and Electronic Item Pickup, you can either call (818) 548-3916 or complete an electronic form three working days before your refuse collection day. This means that if your pickup day is on a Monday, you must put in your request on or before the Wednesday before. If you are a resident living in a multi-family building such as an apartment, you can call (818) 548-3916 to verify the collection day for your area.

Bulky items include:

  • Household furnishings (e.g. sofas, mattresses, floor lamps without light bulbs)

  • Appliances (e.g. hot water heaters and refrigerators).

  • Carpet and lumber (must be bundled and less than five feet in length and two feet in diameter).

  • Refrigerators/freezers on the curb must have their doors removed

The following are not accepted for bulky item pickup:

  • Yard trimmings

  • Tires

  • Glass items (e.g. aquariums, glass doors)

  • Cast iron bathtubs

  • Construction/building materials

On the day of your scheduled pickup, be sure to place the items next to, but apart from your refuse. If your building has bin service, items should be placed at the curb. Bulky items should not be placed in a street or alleyway where they may obstruct traffic or cause a hazard. Items must be placed on the curb before 7:00 am the day of collection, but no sooner than 7:00 pm the night before.
