While cruising around Glendale, you may notice Glendale Police officers and vehicles looking a little more pink than usual. That is because for the month of October the Glendale Police Department (GPD) will be raising awareness of breast cancer for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This annual event is intended to increase awareness about the disease and to raise funds for research into its causes, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure.
In support of this important month, GPD has added a bright pink Ford Explorer police unit and seven pink motorcycles to its fleet. Thanks to a sponsorship from Vital Medical Services, you will have the opportunity to view the pink Explorer at numerous cancer awareness events and businesses through the City of Glendale. GPD's pink motorcycles and lapel pins were sponsored by the Glendale Police Foundation.
The Glendale Police Officers’ Association (GPOA), in partnership with the #PinkPatchProject, is also showing its support with pink uniform patches. GPD Officers will be wearing these pink patches throughout the month of October in support of the awareness campaign. You can get your own limited edition pink Glendale PD uniform patch for only $10.00 from the front desk of the Glendale Police Department located at 131 N Isabel Street, Glendale, CA 91206 or by contacting the GPOA office at gpoa@pacbell.net. These patches not only look great and raise awareness, but all proceeds from their sale will be donated to the Glendale Adventist Cancer Center.
This combined effort is dedicated to the 246,660 women and 2,000 men who will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States this year according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.. Each year, it is estimated that more than 40,000 women and 400 men in the United States will die of breast cancer.
For more information, or if you have questions and comments about the campaign, please contact Tahnee Lightfoot at (818) 548-4818.
