Glendale City Center voted Second Most Walkable Neighborhood in SoCal

October 11, 2016

Residents and visitors alike may be surprised to learn that there are walkable neighborhoods throughout the car haven we call Southern California. Redfin Real-Time set about the task of identifying these seemingly hidden neighborhoods and compiling them into a list of “The 10 Most Walkable SoCal Neighborhoods That Aren’t Downtown L.A.”. Redfin was looking for neighborhoods in cities with less than 300,000 people and with at least 1,000 people in a neighborhood. After scouring SoCal from San Diego to Santa Barbara, Redfin discovered that the second most walkable city in Southern California was in fact the Glendale City Center.

Glendale residents probably aren’t all that surprised. The Glendale City Center has long been a thriving hub of art, culture, shopping, entertainment, and close in proximity to jobs in the Valley and Downtown L.A. On Brand Boulevard, residents can get in shape at LA Fitness, eat a world class cut at Bourbon Steak, and grab a drink with friends at the Tavern on Brand, all within walking distance. Glendale’s City Center also hosts the Americana on Brand, a staple of the downtown area elegantly lined with high-end boutiques and delicious eateries. Living and working in Glendale’s City Center means you are only a few steps away from an endless variety of entertainment, dining, and recreational possibilities.

Glendale trailed Santa Barbara’s West Downtown neighborhood by only one point. However, Glendale’s walkability rating beat out Ocean Park in Santa Monica, Uptown Whittier, and Downtown Oxnard. The purpose of the rankings was to find hidden gems whose neighborhoods were not only easily walkable, but also offered something for visitors and residents alike. Ultimately, Glendale City Center’s accessibility and numerous opportunities helped cement its status as the second most walkable neighborhood in Southern California.
