Glendale Arts to host First Annual POPUP! Bookfest


Glendale’s aspiring writers and book lovers may want to keep their schedules open for the first annual POPUP! Bookest in Glendale. This free literary event series features multilingual readings and public writing, publishing, and zine-making workshops. The event series is presented by Glendale Arts and is working in partnership with Writ Large Press, Friends of the Glendale Public Library, Abril Books, and the Glendale Transportation Center.

PUBLISH! Workshop by Writ Large Press

Thursday, October 13, 2016, 8-10 pm at Abril Books

Join Writ Large Press and Abril Bookstore as they present PUBLISH!, an ongoing underground project that publishes hundreds of writers from around the world through the use of typewriters, speech-to-text software, broadsides, Instagrams, and mathematical equations.

Our City is Multilingual, a Reading + Q&A

Friday, October 21, 2016 8-10 pm at the Glendale Central Library, Lot 10

Celebrate Glendale’s rich linguistic and cultural diversity with multilingual readings by authors Karineh Mahdessian, Sophia Rivera, Angela Ian Penrendondo, Lilly Cabrera, Eliza Karagezian, and Amanda Wang. At the end of the readings there will be time to engage with the writers during a Q&A portion.

Make-A-Zine Workshop & Historic Tour

Saturday, October 29, 2016, 2-4 pm at Glendale Transportation Center

Harness your creativity and learn how to make your own zine (a DIY self-published book) with Rhea Tepp of LA Zine Fest. Attendees will also have the rare opportunity to tour the Historic Southern Pacific Train Station.
