Halloween Art Installation and Dog Costume Contest to Come to Adams Square Mini-Park

October 18, 2016

Halloween may be nearly two weeks away, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get into the Halloween spirit early. The Adams Hill Neighborhood Association and the City of Glendale’s Library, Arts & Culture Department is sponsoring a Halloween themed art installation and dog costume parade at the Adams Square Mini-Park.

The free event will feature a spooky Halloween themed art installation called “The Haunted Gas Station” by artist Bob Kathman. Kathman is a professional graphic designer, animator, comic book artist, and teacher. The installation includes Halloween themed skeleton characters, trucks, and vintage gas station pieces to go with the location. Using the Adams Square Mini-Park as a canvas, Kathman will feature a mix of naturally framed artwork, a pumpkin-filled pick-up truck, and Dia de los Muertos icons. The exhibition can be viewed until Halloween and is part of three temporary art installations that will be located in the mini park. The exhibitions are supported by the City of Glendale Arts & Culture Commission with funding from the Urban Art Fund.

In addition to the Halloween inspired art installation, there will be a dog costume parade for local residents. If you are a resident of the Adams Hill neighborhood, you can enter your costumed canine for a chance to win prizes and awards for scariest, funniest, and most original costume among others. Dog owners are asked to sign in at the park between 4:30 pm and 5:00 pm to receive a number and instructions. The parade will be a short course around the mini park and will begin at 5:15 pm, at which time pictures will be taken and judging will occur. Dogs must remain on their leashes during the entire event and owners must pick up after their dogs.

This unique community event will take place at the Adams Square Mini-Park located at 1020 Palmer Avenue on Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. The event is free and open to the public.
