7th Annual Glendale Health Festival Welcomes Residents this Saturday

November 1, 2016

With increasing healthcare costs it is becoming more and more difficult to find the time and the money to regularly visit a physician. However, thanks to the efforts of the Armenian American Medical Society and the City of Glendale, community members can receive a free complete health evaluation this Saturday at the 7th Annual Glendale Health Festival. Located at the Pacific Community Center, the Glendale Health Festival brings local doctors and medical staff together to offer free flu shots, dental exams, cancer screenings, and various other services.

The event is similar to visiting your own doctor’s office. You begin at a triage area where volunteers take down your pertinent information and recommend appropriate health screenings and services. During this step all participants will have their blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar measurements taken before speaking with a licensed physician about individual recommendations. For specialty questions or cases, an array of specialized physicians will be on hand to answer questions and follow up on individual cases. In addition, various screening services ranging from dental to Breast and Cervical cancer screening will be available to some patients.

The festival also offers other services and educational opportunities that can benefit you and your family, regardless of health. Education will be provided for the whole family on topics such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, proper nutrition, heart disease, cancer awareness, and much more. CPR training by certified educators and flu shots will also be administered at the event. Additionally, the festival will have healthy and fun activities for kids and the whole family. A free healthy lunch will be provided that includes chicken, rice, vegetables, fruit, and bottled water.

The heath festival is an annual event sponsored by the Armenian American Medical Society in collaboration with the City of Glendale, Glendale Community Services and Parks Department, Office of State Senator Carol Liu, Office of Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, and many other public and private sponsors. This year the event will take place on Saturday, November 5 from 10 AM to 3 PM at the Pacific Community Center located at 501 S. Pacific Avenue. The festival is free and open to the entire community.
