America Recycles Day Bringing Games, Fun and Awareness

America Recycles Day

There is a little known holiday and event arriving at the Glendale Pacific Community Center this Saturday - America Recycles Day. America Recycles Day is an annual event celebrated across the nation that mobilizes people to get involved and recycle. Glendale’s own America Recycles Day event is taking place at the Pacific Community Center, Saturday, November 12th at 3:30 pm. The City of Glendale will be presenting a free screening of the movie WALL-E and various environmentally themed crafts, games, and activities.

America Recycles Day is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to recycling, and made possible by Keep America Beautiful, a national organization that seeks to keep America clean and litter free. Part of this effort has been to directly connect communities through regional events that encourage citizens to recycle at work, home, and on-the-go. These events teach people about recycling’s economic and environmental benefits while motivating fair-weather recyclers to become full-time recyclers. Glendale Public Works is getting in on the excitement with their own day full of educational and fun events.

Starting at 3:30 pm this Saturday, Glendale Public Works will be celebrating America Recycles Day with a picnic and movie. Starting at 10 am and lasting through the event, the City will be recycling old and used electronics and batteries courtesy of the LA Conservation Corps. A special free screening of the animated movie Wall-E will be shown at 5:30 pm to get community members in the recycling mood and provide some inspiration. The entire family can enjoy environment themed games and crafts like a Recycling Relay and a bean bag toss. Attendees who bring their picnic in reusable food containers and dishware will be entered into a raffle for prizes. And of course, no event would be complete without dessert food trucks serving up an assortment of tasty treats!

Pacific Community Center is located at 501 South Pacific Avenue, Glendale, CA 91204. For more information on the event contact Public Works Integrated Waste Management Division at (818) 548-3916.
