City of Glendale to host Community Meeting on Passage of Adult Use of Marijuana Act

December 13, 2016

This past November, California voters were faced with a plethora of ballot measures and local, state, and federal candidates at the ballot box. Proposition 64, or the Adult Use of Marijuana Act, was passed by Californian voters on November 9, 2016. The act legalizes the limited growing, possession, and use of recreational marijuana for those who are 21 years of age or older. In light of the passage of Proposition 64, the City of Glendale is hosting a community meeting Wednesday, January 11, 2017 to discuss facts about proposition 64, existing ordinances, and solicit feedback from residents on next steps the city should take.

The community meeting will be held at the Glendale Civic Auditorium at 1401 N. Verdugo Road, and will feature multiple members of Glendale City Staff to answer questions and facilitate a community dialog. The meeting is part of Glendale City Council’s efforts to have an engaged and informed community which will actively participate in informing Glendale’s range of options on this issue. The meeting will feature presentations by city staff which will outline the law as was passed in November, the anticipated role of the federal government, possible implementation scenarios by the State, and of course present Glendale’s range of options. At the end there will be time for community input and discussion about how the City of Glendale should proceed and where to go from here.

The meeting will start at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the Glendale Civic Auditorium located at 1401 N. Verdugo Road. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
