At 5:17 this morning, a massive house fire was reported in the area of Dublin and Emerald Isle drives in Glendale. Three Glendale Police Officers were first on the scene as the flames engulfed the two-story house. The officers witnessed the home’s sole occupant on the balcony attempting to escape the blaze. Taking immediate action, the three officers used a ladder to reach the woman just as she was about to be overcome by the fire. The three officers and the woman were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
Glendale Fire Chief Greg Fish hailed the officers for their bravery.
“What these police officers did is what every firefighter dreams of doing,” said Fish. “There is no doubt that they are heroes.”
Glendale Fire Department continued to combat the massive two-story house fire after the occupant was saved. Glendale Fire deployed 13 Engine & Truck Companies consisting of 52 fire personnel to fight the blaze, which had completely engulfed the 3,000 square foot Glendale home and spread to a nearby car. The resident was alone in the home while her husband was on a trip. He was slated to return today. Unfortunately, the resident’s dog is missing and feared dead. The cause of the fire was not immediately known. Arson investigators were sent to the location and began an investigation to determine the source of the fire.
Thanks to the hard work of the Glendale Fire Department, the blaze has been contained and did not spread to other structures. Glendale Police Officers Stafford, Mercado, and Clay were taken to Glendale Adventist for injuries relating to the rescue. 2 of the 3 have been released to return to duty while the third will seek further treatment at the Grossman Burn Center for burns to his hands. Thanks to their quick actions, the homeowner is safe and under observation at Glendale Adventist with her daughter.
