The National Weather Service is expecting the storm today and over the weekend to bring the largest amount of rain we have seen in years. In order to keep the residents and property of Glendale safe, the City of Glendale has made necessary preparations. Glendale’s Police, Fire, Public Works and Utility department have extra personnel on standby in order to protect life and property and GWP will be on hand to make sure your lights stay on. Check out some useful links and tips below to keep yourself and your property safe during the storm.
With heavy wind and rain expected - our fear, your fear – is the saturated grounds and wind will lead to property damage and loss of life. As the winds continue to pick up and the rain continues, trees are at higher risk for falling over and taking power lines with them. For your safety, please be aware of your surroundings at all times and do not approach downed power lines.
The ground is wet enough; don’t add to it with your own sprinkler. During heavy storms such as this one, it is important to turn off your sprinklers and to keep them off for two days after the rain has ended. Not only does it waste water, but can actually add to the runoff which can be destructive.
Ten free unfilled sandbags are available at all fire station locations, the Glendale Police Station, and the Public Works Yard. Sandbags and sand are available at the following locations:
Dunsmore Park – 4700 Dunsmore Avenue
Brand Park – 1601 W Mountain Street
Lower Scholl Canyon Park – 2849 E. Glenoaks
Sports Complex – 2200 Fern Lane
Fire Station 23/Chevy Chase Library parking lot – 3303 E Chevy Chase Drive
