Arts & Culture Commission Issues Call for Artists and Performers

The City of Glendale’s Arts and Culture Commission has put out a call for artists and performers to add their talent to Glendale’s blooming art scene. Artists can put their work on display while beautifying downtown by applying to paint murals on the City’s utility boxes on April 7-9, 2017. The Commission is also interested in finding performers to provide entertainment every Friday from June through August 2017 at the Brand Library & Art Center Outdoor Plaza. This opportunity is not limited to established artists or performers, and the Commission encourages all interested performers and artists to get involved.

Beyond the Box

Beyond The Box is a utility box mural project supported by the City of Glendale and the Glendale Arts & Culture Commission, with funding from the Urban Art Program. Now in its fourth year, Beyond The Box beautifies the city’s streetscape with colorful and interesting murals installed by selected artists on city-owned utility boxes. To date, murals on over 80 boxes have been completed by the program, and have been very well received by residents and visitors to Glendale.

Interested artists must submit their applications by March 7, 2017. For more information and to fill out an application, click here.

Brand Library Plaza Series

The City of Glendale’s Performance Series, now in its fourth year, provides a free cultural asset to residents and attracts visitors to experience arts and cultural opportunities in the city. This program has been designed to support arts organizations and to bring distinguished cultural programming to Glendale. The Arts and Culture Commission is looking for a variety of performance experiences every Friday from June through August 2017 at the Brand Library & Art Center Outdoor Plaza, 1601 West Mountain Street.

Applications must be submitted by 5:00 pm, Monday, April 3, 2017. For more information and to fill out an application, click here.

The mission of the Glendale Arts & Culture Commission is to enrich the human experience, reinforce Glendale’s identity and civic pride through arts and culture, and to recognize the importance of arts to our quality of life and to the local economy. This is accomplished by consciously integrating arts and culture into the daily life of the people of Glendale through urban design, planning, economic development, and education.
