The Brand Library is set to be the scene of an exciting look into the Los Angeles art world and the underrepresented women writers who document it. “Herstorians: Women Documenting Arts and Culture” features a panelist of women arts journalists examining the question of how women have been excluded from historical representation, and the implication and significance of writing about important and underrepresented artists.
The event is set to take place from 2:00 to 3:30 pm on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at the Brand Library & Art Center, 1601 West Mountain Street Glendale, CA 91201.
The event is being moderated by Tulsa Kinney, Editor of the acclaimed LA-based contemporary art magazine Artillery. Kinney will lead the discussion and be joined by an influential panel of female writers.
Panelists include:
Annie Buckley – Artforum.com; Los Angeles Review of Book
Carol Cheh – LA Weekly; Another Righteous Transfer!
Sharon Mizota – Los Angeles Times
Leanne Robinson – Artillery
This event marks the launch of the March-April issue of Artillery, which includes a feature on the art collective Association of Hysteric Curators, represented in The Brand Library & Art Center’s “The Collectivists” exhibition. The exhibition is host to six of Los Angeles’ leading art-collectives, marking a moment in time when large numbers of artists are coming together to produce art in opposition to the traditional gallery system. The Association of Hysteric Curators is one such group exploring feminism and the historicity of that term through artistic creation.
A reception celebrating the launch of Artillery’s new issue will immediately follow the discussion.
