The City of Glendale has once again received the Operating Budget Excellence Award from the California Society of Municipal Finance Officers (CSMFO) for its FY 2016-2017 budget. This marks the sixth year in a row that the City has received the award for its budget.
The CSMFO budget awards program recognizes agencies whose budget documents not only meet rigorous award criteria, but are considered of the highest quality across state-wide standards. Each agency is judged by impartial reviewers on a slew of different criteria including the format and layout of the budget, financial integrity of the document, and the level of exact detail put into each section.
An agency must meet two different thresholds to be considered for a Budget Excellence Award. They must first gain a minimum score of 50 points (out of 80) in the Excellence in Budgeting section and then score 20 (out of 20) in the Meritorious Budget section. Only agencies which meet both criteria are awarded the much coveted prize.
CSMFO is California’s premier statewide association for municipal finance professionals. Their goal is to promote excellence in financial management through improving the work, integrity, and skills of their member base responsible for municipal and other local government fiscal policy and management.
