Glendale Hosts 16th Annual Cesar Chavez Celebration

March 15, 2017

Join the City of Glendale on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Pacific Community Center for a celebration of the life and work of Cesar Chavez. This annual event brings together the community in celebration of Chavez’s life and dedication to improving treatment, pay, and working conditions for farm workers. The free event will feature live performances, free tacos, the Glendale Rocks! Climbing wall, crafts for children, and much more.

Cesar Chavez, born in 1927, was a prominent civil rights activist who employed non-violent means to bring attention to the plight of farm workers around the United States. Chavez founded the National Farm Workers Association in 1962 and helped to form the United Farm Workers in 1972. Thanks to his leadership, the Union won several significant victories and brought important changes to labor conditions and wages on farms. He was also key in raising national awareness of pesticides and their dangers for farm workers. Chavez died in 1993, but his legacy lives on through Cesar E. Chavez day, which occurs around the state and throughout the country on March 31st.

Glendale’s own Cesar Chavez day will feature fun and games for the entire family to enjoy. Free carne asada or chicken tacos will be served until 2:00 pm, or until food runs out. The event is being held at the Pacific Community Center located at 501 South Pacific Avenue, from 1:00 pm through 4:00 pm. Be sure to get there early before the food runs out!
