It’s not every day that students get to premiere their cinematic work in the famous Alex Theatre, but lucky students from Burbank, Glendale, CSU Northridge, and GCC will get to do just that on Thursday, May 4th. The Verdugo Creative Technologies Consortium’s (VCTC) 3rd annual film expo is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students to express their artistic side, show their work, and learn invaluable skills for a career in the field of digital media. The VCTC Film Expo will feature a screening of student works followed by a dessert reception. The expo will be hosted at the Alex Theatre located at 216 North Brand Boulevard on Thursday, May 4th from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm.
The Film Expo is just one way that the VCTC is working with students in the Verdugo area to foster an interest in digital media. Since its inception, VCTC has coordinated efforts across Burbank, Glendale, and CSU Northridge to build pathways to high-paying careers in digital media. In 2014, VCTC received a 6 million dollar grant from the California Department of Education helping to further offer programs for local students. These programs include the film expo, job shadowing, and significant collaborative efforts between the Verdugo Workforce Development Board, Burbank Unified School District, Glendale Unified School District, GCC, and CSU Northridge.
This event is an exciting time for hundreds of artistic and dedicated student filmmakers to submit their work and demonstrate their impressive skills. All of the participating schools will premiere their best work in this jam-packed one night event.
