We often forget in the excitement of Memorial Day Weekend, that the last Monday of May is a time to reflect and remember those who gave their lives in service to the United States. The Glendale community can also help remember and memorialize by joining the Glendale Sunrise Rotary to help create the inaugural “Field of Honor and Gratitude” at Forest Lawn. Featuring 1,000 U.S. flags flying atop 8-foot poles, this patriotic and moving event raises money for Rotary’s charitable works in the community, including support for our veterans.
This inaugural event will start on May 24th and last until May 31st at Forest Lawn Glendale located at 1712 S Glendale Avenue. The “Field of Honor and Gratitude” will be a community-wide event designed to celebrate patriotism and honor those who have made an impact on our lives. That doesn’t only mean the men and women of the armed forces, but first responders, community leaders, teachers, and more. The field will be open to the public for no charge until its conclusion on May 31st.
You can be part of this community event by sponsoring one or more flags to be flown at Forest Lawn. Each sponsor will be recognized with a laminated sponsor card attached to each flag. In addition, your flag can be dedicated to a hero in your life which will proudly be affixed to the pole. The flag is yours to bring home at the end of the event. The public can also participate by attending the opening ceremony on Friday, May 26th at 9:00 am.
