Glendale Celebrates Older Americans Month with Senior Street Festival

May is Older Americans Month, and the City of Glendale is celebrating with a Senior Street Festival on May 17th. The street festival will include health and wellness booths, a DJ, games, free food, and a chance to win prizes. The event will not only highlight some of the fun and helpful resources the City of Glendale offers its older residents, but celebrates aging and the value older Americans bring to our community. All the fun starts Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 10:30 to 1:30 pm at the Maryland Paseo.

Beyond showcasing Glendale’s important senior resources, the street fest celebrates aging in support of Older Americans Month. Every May, the Administration for Community Living leads the celebrations in honor of Older Americans Month. This year’s theme, Age Out Loud, recognizes the new role many older Americans are taking in their communities and with their lives. Older Americans are beginning to take charge, try new things, have greater agency, and engage with their neighborhoods and the world in new ways. The Senior Street Fest gives Glendale’s senior residents help to “Age Out Loud”, however, there are many other resources for seniors in the community.

The City of Glendale offers a wide array of activities and programs to enhance the quality of life and self-sufficiency among older residents. Three senior centers serve as central hubs for senior programs, services, and activities. These three centers are:

201 E. Colorado Street, Glendale, CA 91205

(818) 548-3775

1613 Glencoe Way, Glendale, CA 91208

(818) 548-2188

501 South Pacific Avenue, Glendale, CA 91204

(818) 548-4098

These senior services centers offer legal assistance by appointment, health services, transportation services, free meals, and a case management program for residents over 60 years of age. For more information on these services, programs, and where to access them, click here.

The community resources described above and others will be on display at the Senior Street Festival on May 17th from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Maryland Paseo located at 143 N. Maryland Avenue, Glendale, CA 91206. The event is sponsored by: Glendale Adventist Medical Center in collaboration with the City of Glendale, Community Services & Parks Department, Maryland Paseo, Dignity Health, and Glendale Memorial Hospital Health Center.
