Making the Most of Summer: Glendale's Summer Leisure Guide

June 2, 2017

"It was June, and the world smelled of roses. The sunshine was like powdered gold over the grassy hillside." ― Maud Hart Lovelace

Glendale, CA - Spring washed away winter’s gloom, leaving Glendale blooming with summer’s ease. But Glendale’s Community Services and Parks department knows that the season of sunshine will not last forever, and has crafted the 2017 Summer Leisure Guide to help residents make the most of the City’s golden days.

The 69-page document is Glendale’s ultimate guide to summer fun, walking residents through everything from youth summer camps, to aquatic programs, to adult sports teams, to senior classes and activities. Though there are too many fun-filled activities for this article to list, the guide’s table of contents makes it easy to find an activity for any resident to enjoy. It even comes with a phone directory in case residents need to contact one of the exceptional staff members of the Community Services and Parks department.

Highlighted in the Guide are the annual events Glendale has come to love. Summer Concerts in the Park will return on Wednesday nights at Verdugo Park from July 5-August 9. Bring a picnic basket, blanket and enjoy live music with the family. And be sure to join the City for Cruise Night, one of Southern California’s most celebrated car events, which will be held on July 15 on Brand Boulevard. Approximately 400 classic cars and “hot-rods”, classic motorcycles, live entertainment, and community displays will highlight the event. This year’s entertainment line includes The Coral Paradise Brand – Jimmy Buffett Tribute, Creedence Relived, and Gregory Wolfe as Rod Stewart. This 24th Annual Cruise Night will also feature a Fireworks Spectacular at the end of the event, near the main stage area.

Also in the Guide are details on take-home packages to spice up summer birthdays, barbecues, or any occasion really. “Party on the Go!” brings arts & crafts, sports, and games to the party. “Flicks on the Go!” gives residents the chance to enjoy a movie under the moonlight on an inflatable screen with high power video projection and surround sound. Or, for a more exciting turn, rent the City’s portable rock climbing wall with the “Glendale Rocks!” package. The wading pools are also available for private rentals during non-operational hours.
