City Council Meeting

December 5, 2017

Consent Items

The Glendale City Council approved its consent calendar, which included 6 items, with one unanimous vote.

First, council approved a resolution allowing the City to receive a reimbursement of $350,000 from Metro for project activities related to the Doran Street and Broadway/Brazil grade separation projects. The project will improve the traffic conditions at two existing at-grade railroad crossings west of San Fernando road and south of the 134 freeway.

Council also accepted $132,000 in grant funds from the California State Library. The grant will partially support the Library, Arts and Culture Department’s literacy program, which serves Glendale residents who are in need of Literacy and English language skills.

Deukmejian Park Nature Education Center Project

Glendale City Council unanimously approved the 3rd part of the 4th phase of the master plan for the Deukmejian Park Nature Education project.

This part will include improvements to Interpretive Center. Some of the features that will be added include displays, exhibits, minor landscaping, and audio and visual equipment. New restroom facilities and interpretive signage will also be added.

A conceptual design was proposed to expand the south patio of and add a second floor with an office and multi-purpose room to Le Mesnager Barn, and add additional overflow parking, a Wilderness-themed playground, and concession stand.

Central Park Landscape Framework and Project Initiation

Council approved the Central Park Landscape Framework and Project Initiation Analysis and directed staff to proceed with community outreach.

The framework is a set of guiding design principles that were used to reimagine the Central Park block and better integrate its civic, cultural, and senior facilities, and also create new public spaces and recreational opportunities.

Council’s action also included the appropriation of no more than $42,500 to SWA, a design firm which prepared the framework and design, for additional services.
