Ascencia’s Komuro to Depart Glendale Homeless Services Agency

June 14, 2018

The board of directors of Ascencia announced June 11 that the Glendale homeless services agency’s longtime executive director, Natalie Profant Komuro, will leave the agency at the end of the month.

Komuro joined the nonprofit in 2007. During her 11 years with the organization, she led the rebranding to Ascencia, a successful capital campaign, and relocation to a permanent home on Tyburn Street.

Under her leadership, Ascencia was part of a five-year national demonstration project to move high-cost frequent hospital users to permanent housing, according to an Ascencia media release. With 90% of clients remaining housed, the program continues to work with local hospitals.

The City of Glendale and Ascencia have a long, positive working relationship to deliver services to Glendale’s homeless population. In 2014, Ascencia led the City’s effort to reduce Veteran homelessness. The effort housed 68 homeless veterans as part of the 100,000 Homes campaign.

In 2012, Ascencia was honored as Organization of the Year by the Glendale Chamber of Commerce. Last year, Komuro was named Women of the Year by the Glendale Chamber of Commerce. And, just last week, Ascencia was honored as the Nonprofit of the Year for the 43rd California State Assembly District.

Following Komuro’s departure, Laura Duncan, Ph.D., director of programs for Ascencia, will be acting executive director.

Ascencia is located at 1851 Tyburn St., Glendale, CA 91204. To learn more about Ascencia, visit www.ascenciaca.org.
