
Glendale’s Council Quick take is here to give you the breakdown on the City’s Weekly Council Meetings. On July 7, 2020, Council met for a Special Meeting, as well as their regularly scheduled Council Meeting.
Special Meeting of City Council
Community Development, re: Requested Update of Downtown Specific Plan Standards a Year Following Adoption, and Miscellaneous Proposed Code Cleanups On March 26, 2019, City Council adopted two ordinances: an urgency ordinance to amend the DSP and an ordinance to amend GMC Chapter 30.32 regarding hotel parking. At the time, Council asked that this item be brought back in one year to provide an update and any considerations that may be necessary. Council received the staff presentation, but postponed discussion and direction on this item to the July 21, 2020 meeting.

Community Development, re: Discussion and Direction Regarding Alex Theatre Management, Funding, and Future (Continued from 6/30/2020) City Council authorized staff to execute a Professional Services Agreement with Arts Consulting Group to conduct an organizational audit of the Alex Theatre Management. Staff was also directed to begin preparing a Request for Proposals (RFP), but not issue it until further direction is given by Council and the review of the audit’s findings. Council also approved a resolution of appropriation in the amount of $50,000 for the audit.

Regularly Scheduled Evening Meeting
Public Works, re: Standards for Landscaping in Parkways City Council directed staff to bring back an ordinance to include: decreasing the minimum requirement for living ground covering to 30%, increasing the height limit for non-living material to 18 inches, requiring the landscaping in parkway areas where there are no sidewalks to match the landscaping of the front yard setback, ensuring that liability rests with the property owner to the extent permitted by law, and eliminating the prohibitions on the use of loose materials, such as gravel or wood chips.

Public Works, re: Negotiations for Commercial and Multi-Family Solid Waste Collection Services (Continued from 6/30/2020) Council approved a motion allowing staff to meet and negotiate with a short list of the following proposers: Athens Services, Southland Disposal Company, NASA Services Inc., and Waste Resource Technologies, Inc,. for consideration of franchise of the City’s Commercial and Multi-Family Solid Waste collection Services.

HEARING Public Works, re: Approval of the Final Engineer’s Report and Ordering the Levy and Collection of Annual Assessments for the North San Fernando Road Corridor Landscape Maintenance District for Fiscal Year 2020-21 Council approved and adopted the resolutions approving the Final Engineer’s Report and ordering the levy and collection of annual assessments for the North San Fernando Road Corridor Landscape Maintenance District for Fiscal Year 2020-2021.
The scheduled Housing Authority and Glendale City Council meetings for July 14, 2020 have been cancelled. Both meetings will resume on Tuesday July 21, 2020. Glendale City Council Meetings are held on Tuesdays at 6:00pm. Glendale Housing Authority and Special City Council meetings are also held on Tuesdays at 3:00pm.
