The fabulous Scambooty opens up the Brand Library Plaza Series! Scambooty weaves jazz, folk, blues, jump, country and the Great American Songbook into tight 3-part vocals spanning the 1920s, 30s, 40s and 50s, as well as songs influenced by American Roots Music.

 

 

Brand Library Plaza Series | Jonathan Stout & His Campus Five

Jonathan Stout and his Campus Five, featuring Hilary Alexander is the nation’s premier swing dance band. Showcasing the small-group sound of the late 1930’s and early 1940’s, the Campus Five is the most danceable swing band anywhere.

 

 

Brand Library Plaza Series | Nevanka East European Folk Ensemble

Nevenka is a Los Angeles-based women’s folk chorus performing songs from Bulgaria, Macedonia, Croatia, Albania, Russia, Greece, and Georgia, as well as Ladino Sephardic and Romany (Gypsy) songs. The group was formed in 1976 by women who shared a common interest in the complex harmonies and compelling rhythms typical of Balkan music. Very much in the Eastern European tradition, Nevenka includes women of all ages making music together.

This quintet was formed in 2017 by young musicians in Los Angeles. Playing folk instruments characteristic of the region, the ensemble is committed to preserving a performance practice informed by the rich musical traditions local to Armenia and its surrounding cultures. The program will consist of Armenian folk, minstrel (ashugh) and sacred music, as well as Persian classical music.

Ukulele Bartt Warburton has performed worldwide across Australia, New Zealand, England, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain, Greece, America, and lots of other places. His romantic and quirky songs, from “Pluck You” to “Do You Know Where I’d Like to Kiss You?” appear on his three studio albums, and in videos that have garnered millions of views.

Formed in fall 1992, the L.A. Bluescasters is a four-piece blues / rhythm & blues band from the San Gabriel Valley. The band’s music includes traditional blues and updated interpretations of the blues as well as rhythm and blues, and original compositions, along with music from their musical influences such as Jimmy Reed, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn and the Allman Brothers.

Yuko Mabuchi started playing classical piano at age of 4, in her hometown of Fukui, Japan. As a teenager she was fascinated by American R&B, Hip-Hop and Blues. After hearing the music of Oscar Peterson and Herbie Hancock she fell in love with Jazz and after high school she entered the AN Music School in Kyoto to study jazz piano under Kunihiro Kameda. After graduating from the conservatory, she began performing locally as a soloist, and as a member of a local jazz trio.
