Consent Items
The Glendale City Council approved the consent calendar, which included five items, with one unanimous vote.
Glendale City Council approved a resolution adopting the Plans and Specifications for the Fiscal Year 2017-18 ADA Curb Ramp Installation and Sidewalk Repair Program, and directed the City Clerk to advertise for bids. The plans and specifications include selective removal and reconstruction of damaged curbs, gutters, sidewalks, driveways, cross gutters and alley aprons, and horizontal saw-cutting of lifted sidewalks, curb ramp modifications to meet current ADA requirements, removal of existing street trees, and planting of new 24-inch box trees. As part of this project, two pedestrian crossings at two separate locations near the Incarnation Parish School will be improved. The full detailed report can be found here.
City Council also authorized an increase in the contingency amount by $479,804.67 with Kemp Bros. Construction, Inc. for additional services related to the unforeseen and unanticipated construction related modifications and enhancements to the ReflectSpace, and unanticipated costs related to the installation of the Automated Materials Handling system. Downtown Glendale Internally Illuminated Street Name Sign Replacement Project Phase 2
City Council approved a motion which awarded a contract to Vart Construction, Inc. in the amount of $539,500, approving a 15% reserve for contingencies in the amount of $80,925, and rejecting all other bids for the Downtown Glendale Internally Illuminated Street Name Sign Replacement Project Phase 2. The Public Works Department has started the implementation of a project to improve sign visibility and reduce maintenance costs by replacing the internally illuminated street name signs (llSNS) at selected signalized intersections in the Downtown Glendale area. Phase 1 was completed in August 2017 which focused on the replacement of 150 IISNS in the core downtown business district. Phase 2 will complete the remaining downtown areas and install 250 new IISNS. The full report can be found here.
Update Regarding Proposed Grayson Repowering Project Environmental Review
City Council approved a motion to note and file the update regarding the proposed Grayson Repowering Project. The motion was not a certification of the final Environmental Impact Report. The proposed date in which staff will bring the certification of the EIR forward for the City Council’s deliberation is on March 27th. The EIR is an informational document that analyzes the potential environmental impacts, challenges, and mitigations that may stem from this project. The objectives for filing the report are to move forward with a full disclosure of the EIR document, and to take into account the information possessed and over 1,100 comments made in the environmental review.
