The Community College League of California has honored local businessman and Glendale Community College (GCC) graduate Dave Greenbaum with its annual Distinguished Alumni Award, presented Friday, November 17, 2017, during the League’s Annual Convention in San Jose.

Greenbaum, a graduate of Glendale High School, attended GCC prior to 1980 when he started his own company that specializes in flooring installation supplies. Since that time, David C. Greenbaum Co. has grown to 30 employees. In 1987, he joined the Glendale College Foundation, as a way to “give back” to the college.

Over the last thirty years, Greenbaum has served in leadership positions in more than one dozen local organizations including National Director US Jaycees, VP Glendale Kiwanis Club, Chairman of Glendale Salvation Army Advisory Board, and as President of the following: Glendale Coordinating Council, Glendale Area Youth Employment Committee, Glendale Host Lions Club, Glendale Parks and Recreation Commission, Glendale Civil Service Commission, Verdugo Club, Glendale YMCA, Campbell Center Services for Developmentally Disabled, Glendale Community Foundation, Glendale Quarterback Club, and Glendale HS Alumni Association.

“My experiences at the College propelled me into a lifetime of community participation or as we call it today, civic engagement,” said Greenbaum. “At the College I learned the value of community and the rewards that come with participation. The many individuals I have served with have enriched my life.”

“His community involvement transcends the norm,” said GCC President/Superintendent Dr. David Viar who introduced Greenbaum at the event. “His public service focuses on helping make the community better. He does not seek name recognition, he seeks to help others.”

The League began recognizing distinguished alumni more than 50-years ago as a way to honor community college graduates who are accomplished professionals and citizens in their community.
