Two minutes after being dispatched, Glendale Police officers were on scene in the 500 block of East Broadway at 8:31 p.m. on Saturday November 30 to apply the necessary shock – using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) device – to a man collapsed and not breathing.
The man began to breathe on the transport to the hospital. According to medical staff, the quick response of officers, along with the timely application of CPR and the AED shock, saved the man’s life.
GPD officers have received basic medical care intervention training, also known as Tactical Medicine Training, since 2015.
Often officers are first on the scene during a critical and active assailant incident and provide life-saving actions, such as bleeding control, applying tourniquets, airway management, splinting and wound care, until emergency medical services are able to access the scene.
GPD and the Glendale Fire Department conduct collaborative training to better prepare for medical emergencies and crime related incidents.
