GWP Shines Light on Solar Education



Glendale Water and Power (GWP) is teaching Glendale students the power of the Sun by equipping educators with the resources they need to bring solar energy to Glendale classrooms. The non-profit Solar Schoolhouse will run two GWP-funded workshops, listed below. Both events and classroom materials are FREE to all Glendale educators, though an RSVP is required due to limited space.

  1. What: Solar Ovens Workshop When: November 7th, 3:45PM – 6:30PM Where: Mountain Ave Elementary School Participating educators (grades k-12) will learn the art and science of designing solar ovens and the magic of cooking with sunshine. Each participating school will receive a SunOven for their campus, along with curriculum for their classrooms.

  2. What: Solar Preparedness Charger Workshop When: November 8th, 3:45PM – 6:30PM Where: Rosemont Middle School Participating educators (grades 6-12) will learn how utilizing solar energy can provide power for communication, lighting, and emergency needs. Educators attending this workshop will receive a set of Solar Preparedness Charger kits for their classroom, a set of tools for building the chargers, and curriculum.

The Solar Schoolhouse Glendale program is a GWP Public Benefit Program designed to help teachers and students learn about the benefits of renewable energy. The Glendale Solar Discovery Faire, open to the community, is scheduled for April 18, 2018, to be held at Rosemont Middle School.
