Glendale Educational Foundation to Honor Two with Educational Excellence Awards


The Glendale Educational Foundation (GEF) is presenting the 14th Annual State of theSchools Breakfast to showcase the accomplishments of the Glendale Unified School District(GUSD) on October 4, 2018 at the Glendale Civic Auditorium, 1401 North Verdugo Road,at 7 a.m.

Educational Excellence Awards will be presented to the Glendale Teacher of the Year Betsy Astor from Glendale High School and Lynn Miyamoto for her continued support of the PTA and GEF.

The focus is Visual and Performing Art, with a new theme this year being “Music Matters” that will support music programs for GUSD secondary schools (middle and high school).

This year student Rechenza Puno, Hoover High School senior will sing the Star Spangled Banner, and there will be a special performance from the Glendale High School Jazz Band, Closing the event will be the outstanding Glendale High School Marching Band.

The major sponsors include Avery Dennison, The Walt Disney Company, Pacific BMW and GEF Summer School, Inc. Leading sponsors include the Stone-Beck Group/Morgan Stanley, The Cameron Fund, Star Ford Lincoln Mazda/Gregg Bussjaeger Memorial Foundation and Karen D. Whyte Memorial Fund.

Glendale Educational Foundation is celebrating 14 years of increasing support for GUSD in its three areas of focus – Visual and Performing Arts, Health & Fitness and Science & Technology. To date, over $3,200,000 has been donated to GUSD.
