Glendale Water & Power (GWP) hosted the Chubu Electric Power Company (CEPCO) from Japan on September 21, 2017 at GWP’s administrative offices. The visit is yet another example of the innovative power of GWP and Glendale’s strong ties to the global community.
CEPCO invests, constructs and operates power networks in the Chubu region of Japan’s main island. The Chubu region is one of Japan’s leading manufacturing regions consisting of many world class Japanese industries. CEPCO visited GWP and met with various members of GWP’s Automated Meter Infrastructure implementation team to get a better understanding of the deployment of the digital meters and see the processes used by a utility that simultaneously installed electric and water digital meters.
“It is an honor for GWP to host a utility as large as CEPCO that serves over 16 million customers, and is interested in learning about GWP’s successful Automated Meter Infrastructure implementation,” said Glendale Water & Power’s General Manager, Stephen Zurn.
But GWP's connection with CEPCO isn't the only instance of Glendale's international leadership and innovation. Glendale also hosts a Sister City program that promotes the exchange of ideas between cities in hopes of solving common problems, and meeting shared needs. Although Chubu is not part of Glendale's Sister City program, the CEPCO visit is a prime example of the free-flowing exchange of solutions the program seeks to foster.
According to the City’s website, “the selection of a Sister City is based upon several guidelines, including similarities in cultural activities, economics, size, businesses, manufacturing, entertainment venues, accessibility/transportation and more.”
Glendale currently has eight sister cities: Higashiosaka in Japan, Tlaquepaque and Rosarito in Mexico, Goseong and Gimpo in Korea, Santiago de los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic, and Ghapan and Gyumri in Armenia.
