Glendale Youth Alliance to Celebrate 25th Anniversary

Twenty five years ago, Glendale business and education leaders asked gang members what would keep them out of gangs. They responded “jobs.” Inspired by this answer, community leaders established the Glendale Youth Alliance (GYA) in 1993 to provide jobs and employment preparedness training for Glendale’s at-risk youth aged 14-24. GYA programs are designed to build civic values, provide a foundation to learn job skills, and increase the likelihood that participants become productive members of the workforce.

This year mark’s GYA’s 25th Anniversary and they would like you to join the celebration. The 25th Anniversary Gala & Award Ceremony will be held on Thursday, October 25th at the Armenian Society of Los Angeles in Glendale.

The evening will include a cocktail hour, silent auction, dinner, program, and entertainment. GYA will also recognize community partners who have supported GYA for its 25 years.

Tickets are still available for those who would like to attend, and sponsorship opportunities are available until the extended date of Friday, October 12.

Glendale Youth Alliance currently operates six programs that offer employment and mentorship to youth. These range from a program that offers subsidized jobs to the youngest youth who have never held a job, to a program for older youth who are ready to secure unsubsidized employment.

Since 1993, GYA has provided jobs and employment preparedness training to over 10,000 youth in the Verdugo region. GYA has grown from employing 30 youth per year to employing over 500 youth per year, and has over 1,000 youth on its waiting list on an annual basis. GYA is the only Glendale social service agency that provides subsidized jobs for youth. GYA collaborates with various community partners and businesses who hire youth to perform a variety of jobs each year, demonstrating that the Glendale community supports GYA and its commitment to youth.

Please join us in honoring the great work done by GYA at their 25th Anniversary Gala. For more information, visit their EventBrite page or contact Tina Osborn at (818) 548-2714 or email TOsborn@glendaleca.gov
