HealthX 2018


Do you love watching TEDx Talks? Are you a health nut looking for the latest wellness products and procedures? Then HealthX is the event for you! Coming back to Glendale Adventist on Friday, April 20th from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. is HealthX, TEDx style presentations and demonstrations focused on health and wellness including healthy lifestyles, new medication, and what’s new in the health industry.

Join Valley Economic Alliance for HealthX, a series of talks hosted by Ramella Markarian, VP and Business Development Executive at Adventist Health. The event starts early Friday morning with registration at 7:30 a.m. But don’t let the time stop you from this unique opportunity to network with the best in the industry and get some delicious breakfast as well! The presentations begin at 8:30, each lasting 15 minutes with two demonstrations in between.

The three speakers come from various walks of the health world. After the program is complete, all presenters will head back onto the stage for an audience guided Q&A moderated by Kim Guard of Express Employment Professionals.

Santiago Munoz, Chief Strategy Officer at UCLA Health: Strategies to Improve Health Care Access in Los Angeles

Mr. Munoz will discuss health care access in Los Angeles and the implications for consumers and health systems in a post Affordable Care Act environment. He will cover the expansion of health care coverage and recent activities by UCLA Health to improve health care access and advance population health.

Dr. Harry Balian, Cardiologist at Glendale Adventist Health: Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement

Dr. Balian will discuss a new Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement surgery that is minimally invasive. This method of surgery enables patients with severe aortic stenosis to receive a new heart valve without undergoing open heart surgery.

Dr. Nimmi Kapoor, FACS Breast Surgical Oncologist at Cedars Sinai Medical Center: Navigating Breast Cancer Risk

Dr. Kapoor will discuss key factors related to breast cancer risk and new technology available to address the risks. She will explain the benefits of advanced breast cancer screening with 3D mammography as well as other imaging modalities available. Dr. Kapoor will elaborate on the expansion of genetic testing for hereditary breast cancer risk, which now includes dozens of genes related to risk and how to best navigate this landscape.

Dr. Yelena Verba, BSPT DPT Physical Therapist Assistant Program Director at Concord Career College,

North Hollywood: Kinesiology Taping for Everyday Musculoskeletal Injuries

Dr. Verba will lead the demonstrations with a live kinesiology taping session that treats a variety of orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological medical injuries and conditions. She will demonstrate how the taping method facilitates the body’s natural healing process while allowing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion.
