Hoover Marching Band Takes Home the Champion Trophy

The Hoover High School Tornado Marching Band brought home the California State Band Championship Divisional Champion trophy for a third consecutive year on Saturday, November 18.

The end of a sensationally competitive season began with the morning division finals, when the Band won first place in music performance, visual performance, music effect, visual effect, percussion, and color guard with a score of 90.15 – nearly 5 points greater than the next band.

Later that night during the Open Class Finals, the Hoover Marching Band – a 4A sized band – received the bronze medal with a score of 92.65, right behind the silver medalists (93.05) and the gold medalists (95.6).

The two bands that finished ahead of Hoover were a 5A and 6A band, which are 2 to 3 times larger than Hoover’s 4A size. On the other end, Hoover’s band finished ahead of three 6A bands, two 5A bands, and one 3A, 2A and 1A. All this success with a band composed of 50% new members.

For all the material awards the students earned on Saturday, the truly admirable and commendable achievement was the classy way in which the band represented their school and City. They really have developed a certain kind of fame for their school and City.

This great milestone was achieved by the hard-working members of the Hoover Marching Band and the leadership of Mr. Martin Rhees, Director of Hoover Instrumental Music.
