Glendale Tech Week is packed with events and speakers to help rising entrepreneurs learn the cutting edges of business and technology -- giving attendees the chance to rub elbows with tech giants, and compete for a $20,000 prize package. You probably already knew about that. But what you might not have known about, is the wide array of tech careers being offered in conjunction with the week-long event. That's right, the Verdugo Job Center will be hosting its 2nd Annual Tech Job Fair at the newly renovated Downtown Central Library on October 12, 2017 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Admission is free and provides attendees with access to over 18 local businesses and resource organizations and 180 positions, with even more to be announced.
VJC Tech Job Fair and Glendale Tech Week, are two parts of a larger effort championed by Councilmember Zareh Sinanyan and supported by the Glendale City Council to diversify the local economy. On Jan. 31, 2017, the Glendale City Council unanimously approved the Glendale Tech Strategy, which called for specific recommendations including creating an accelerator, improving marketing efforts, and encouraging greater collaboration between the companies in Glendale.
“I envisioned the Glendale Tech Strategy as a way to strengthen and diversify our economy,” Councilmember Zareh Sinanyan said. “As components of the strategy, these events allows us to provide services that will propel our tech companies to the next level of success, and to enrich not just Glendale, but the entire region. I am excited for our city and our future.”
Glendale is currently home to 40,000 tech jobs and 1,049 tech companies. The Glendale Tech Strategy -- including the Tech Week and Job Fair -- will bolster this robust sector with even more talent and opportunity.
“It is a priority of the Glendale City Council to support initiatives that create economic vibrancy and fiscal sustainability,” said Mayor Vartan Gharpetian. “Glendale’s Tech Strategy helps us accomplish both."
