Metro's Bicycle Education Safety Training (BEST) Ride

Explore Glendale’s public art on a bicycle tour! On Sunday, November 4th, Metro will host their Bicycle Education Safety Training (BEST) “The Word on the Street” Ride.

Join C.I.C.L.E. and tour Scott Froschaur's "The Word on the Street" public art project through Glendale's many parks, with the artist himself!

Using the materials and look of common street signs, Froschauer has replaced the usual commands of those signs with something far more positive. You’ll visit some of the artist’s public art project, “The Word on the Street,” as you travel through the City of Glendale. With the installation, Froschauer offers lighthearted – and mood lightening, thought provoking – artistic signage.

“Glendale’s Bicycle Transportation Plan is currently working to transform our city into a friendlier environment for public transportation and bike riders,” said Ara Najarian, Glendale City Councilmember and Metro Board Member. “Metro’s Bicycle Education Safety Training (BEST) Ride offers participants a chance to view Glendale’s public art installations using our new bike lanes. This event is a great opportunity for art and bicycle enthusiasts alike to explore Glendale through a sustainable alternative to transportation!”

The ride begins and ends at Glendale's Central Park, traveling to Froshauer's public art installation via Pacific and Maple Park, using the City's new bike lanes. At the end of the ride there's an opportunity to tour the Neon Museum.

To participate in the BEST Ride, all participants should be prepared and able to bike safely with the ability to break, change gears, and balance while stopping and starting. Participants must bring their bicycles and a lock. All participants under 18 must wear a helmet and be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and children under 8 should be on a tag-a-long, bike trailer, tandem, or other safe child-carrying device.
