Santa Ana Winds Cause Downed Trees and Power Lines

The Santa Ana winds are back in Southern California and Glendale is no exception to the damage it can wreak. 

On October 15, 2018, Glendalians woke up to the gushing sound of winds and fallen trees in their neighborhoods. The intense winds have caused power outages around the City affecting approximately 4500 residents. With wind gusts this strong, there is expected potential for more outages and possible downed trees.

 

Glendale Water and Power and Public Works crews are working diligently to restore power and clear streets of any downed lines or trees.

 

The following downed trees have been reported:

  • Dunsmore - large tree down, and 3-4 large limbs.

  • Deukmejian - large tree down in DG parking lot and lots of debris everywhere.

  • NY - multiple large limbs and some small trees down

  • Sports Complex - large tree down and some small trees effected, light pole down in parking lot

  • Verdugo - large limbs down throughout the park.

Safety Tips:

  • During high wind warnings, identify an interior room at home or work where you cant ake shelter

  • If you are driving and are not near a sturdy building, hold the steering wheel with both hands and slow down.

  • Keep a distance from high profile vehicles, large trucks, U-Hauls, etc.

  • Stay clear of trees

  • Stay clear of downed power lines

  • Beware of loose items outdoors such as chairs, tables, umbrellas, etc.
