Beer, wine, light appetizers, a historical tour of the Brand, an excerpt from Christopher Richmond's film, a panel, and some MORE surprises. This is our 12th Birthday so come celebrate Artillery, too!


Brand Library Book Sale Saturday | September 29, 2018 | 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM Contact: Caley or Erin Free The Brand Associates and Brand Library are hosting a Book, Music, and Art Sale on Saturday, September 29, 2018 during the library’s open hours (10am - 5pm). The sale will take place at Brand Library & Art Center in the Recital Hall, 1601 W. Mountain St., Glendale, CA 91201. Admission is free and complimentary parking is available in Brand Park adjacent to the library. This is a great opportunity to purchase some wonderful and very affordable treasures from the Brand Library, and all sale proceeds will be used to support our music, dance and art offerings throughout the year.

In The Bag | Knitting Support Group Tuesday | October 2, 2018 | 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM Contact: Erin Free We will be hosting our knitting group on the first Tuesday of October from 4pm - 5pm in support of our In The Bag Knitting kit. Special Event | The Theremin: A Hands On Hands Off Interactive Music Experience Saturday | October 6, 2018 | 2:00 PM Contact: Blair Free Ed Sussman will discuss and perform on the Theremin. This is the first electronic instrument, developed in the 1920s, and is played without being touched. Ed will also discuss it's inventor, Leon Theremin, and his other inventions including motion detection alarms and spying devices. Theremin's unique untouchable instrument lead to the new electronic music technologies used today. The instrument has been used in popular classical, jazz, pop and rock classics. Ed will perform and also encourage the audience to participate and explore the magic of making music with the wave of their hands.

Brand 46 | Special Event | “Art” by Yasmina Reza

Tuesday | October 9, 2018 | 6:00 PM

Members of Brand Associates and their guests are invited to a reading of the Tony Award-winning play “Art.” Glendale’s own Antaeus Theatre Company members, directed by Gigi Bermingham, will present this engrossing play which explores how an almost totally white painting disrupts the longstanding relationship of three friends when it raises questions of aesthetics, class and interpersonal history that cannot be ignored. The Big Draw L.A. | Mirror Selfie Wednesday | October 10, 2018 | 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM Contact: Erin Free Unleash your creativity! Participate in the Big Draw in October. Express yourself drawing your own artistic self-portrait using a mirror and simple printmaking techniques. We will be meeting in the Brand Library Courtyard. All materials provided.

Book To Art Club | The Botany of Desire Saturday | October 13, 2018 | 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM Contact: Erin Free The Book to Art Club combines reading, discussion, and art-making! Enjoy light refreshments, book discussion, and an art project based on themes from the book The Botany of Desire by Michael Pollan. Art supplies will be provided. Brand 46 | Special Event | Fear No Art Collecting Demystified Thursday | October 18, 2018 | 6:30 PM Contact: Caley Free We have assembled a distinguished panel of experts to unravel the mysteries, bust the myths and answer your burning questions about art collecting. The event also includes a walk around the Brand 46 exhibition with panel members. A 6:30 p.m. wine and cheese reception will be followed by the panel and tour of the exhibition from 7-8:30 p.m.

Brand Associates Docent Tour | Tour the Historic Brand Library & Art Center Saturday | October 20, 2018 | 9:30 PM – 10:3 AM Contact: Caley Free Brand Associates member and renowned international tour guide, Joemy Wilson, author of Coming Up on Your Left:, A Tour Guide's Guidebook, will share the fascinating story of the Brand Family and Miradero the historic family home that is now Brand Library. Joemy will also share information about the renovation and historic restoration that took place between 2012 and 2014. This tour is free, but RSVPs are required. RSVP by email to info@brandlibrary.org or call (818) 548-2051. Tour is limited to 25 people. Meet at the top of the stairs on the west side of the building and wear comfortable shoes.

Make It! | Monotype Printmaking Saturday | October 20, 2018 | 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM Contact: Erin Free This hands-on crafts program for all ages will give participants ages 4 and up a chance to express themselves. Kids 9 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Each program is limited to 20 kids plus accompanying adults.

Music Animated! | Sounds of Ancient Mexico! Saturday | November 17, 2018 | 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM Contact: Blair Free Sounds of Ancient Mexico with Martin Espino, is an interactive family oriented experience. The audience will be gently guided to sing easy-to-sing-songs in indigenous languages as well as play on actual indigenous exotic percussion instruments. Admission is free and a musical instrument petting zoo will follow the performance.
