Council Approves Downtown Holiday Trolley Service

A holiday trolley service is coming to town! The Glendale City Council is proud to present the Free Downtown Holiday Trolley, which will kick off service this Saturday, November 18 at 10 a.m.

The trolley will run from November 18 until January 15 and operate Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The trolley service will travel a Brand Boulevard-focused route (SEE MAP BELOW) as it picks up passengers looking for a easy and free way to get around Downtown Glendale

CDD Director Phil Lanzafame said the trolleys are intended to improve mobility between north and south parts of Brand Boulevard during the holiday season. However, he added, “We’re operating this separate from our current transit system,” which includes the Glendale Beeline.

This type of trolley service can be found in California’s coastal cities during the summer months where average ridership is 12.7 passengers per service hour. The Glendale Beeline has an average ridership of 10 passengers per service hour from November to January.

The idea for the trolleys service, a pilot program, originated at the council dais.

Councilmember Paula Devine, who championed the Holiday Trolley, says, “This is a fun way for our residents, businesses and visitors to experience downtown Glendale during the beautiful holiday season. We wanted to add a little extra flair to Brand Boulevard during this joyful time.”

Mayor Vartan Gharpetian stated, “The holidays in Glendale are always a very festive time of year with elaborate decorations along Brand Boulevard and incredible shopping options at the Americana and Galleria. We hope residents and businesses utilize the trolley to ease traveling to and from shopping and dining destinations.”
