Why Isn’t This Recyclable?
What makes an item recyclable? Recyclability means an item can be collected, sorted, sold, and turned into new products. However, not all materials are recyclable. The most commonly confused material are plastics, since these include a wide range of items that may not have recyclable value. Only recycle plastics where the top is smaller than the base (such as bottles, jars or jugs).
Metal: All metal cans such as soup and soda cans are recyclable as well as scrap metal.
Cardboard: Cardboard, and boxes as well as ascetic (milk or soup cardboard containers).
Glass: All colors of glass bottles and jars.

Organics Recycling: Food Scraps (leftover veggies, bones, meat, and coffee grounds), food-soiled paper (napkins, coffee filters) in a clear soiled bag with loose yard trimmings.
Recycling: Aluminum cans, aluminum foil, clean paper, flattened cardboard, glass, metal, plastic containers and plastic bottles.
For the Curious Composters
Want to learn how to compost? Home composting is simple and easy! Recycle leftover food scraps and yard trimmings at home with a backyard composting bin. Greens (coffee grounds and filters, vegetable scraps, grass), browns (dried leaves, grass and weeds, nut shells, shredded paper, and cardboard), water and air. Season-Specific Recycling/Collection
Autumn
Did you know that you can turn your old holiday pumpkin into a valuable soil amendment by placing it in the organics recycling cart/bin? Be sure to bag your pumpkin with other food scraps and food soiled paper before placing it in your container.
Additionally, instead of throwing away dried leaves that fall on your lawn this autumn, let them remain on your lawn as a source of nutrients! Leaves that drop can supply essential nutrients for your lawn/garden because tree roots draw over a dozen plant nutrients while synthetic fertilizer often contains just three plant nutrients.
Winter
To recycle your Christmas tree: 1. Remove all ornaments, decorations, bags, stands, bars, nails and most tinsel. (Flocked and trees coated with fire retardant are acceptable.) 2. Trees taller than 8 ft. must be cut in half. 3. Place the tree at the curb or in the alley for pick-up on your refuse collection day. 4. The tree will be picked up within 2 weeks.
Christmas Tree Collection Services
a. Single Family and Multi-Family (Up to Four Units) Recycle your Christmas tree with Public Works Integrated Waste from January 2, 2023 to March 31, 2023.
b. Commercial and Multi-Family (5+)
Christmas trees are collected by your franchised hauler on your regular service
